Miami animation VFX gaming May meetup recap
Miami showed up again for an easygoing, idea-packed AVG meetup—full of career talk, project updates, and the kind of cross-discipline conversations that remind you why the community matters.

Professions: Miami Animation, VFX, gaming May Meetup Recap
One of the best parts of any AVG meetup is the range of perspectives you get in one place. This month’s crew included:
3D animators
2D animators
Game developers
Producers
VFX artists
3D printing experts
Character modelers
Storyboard artist
Creative Directors
Motion capture pros
VR Artist
3D Visualization design
FIU and MDC professor
FIU and MDC students and Alumni
And the industry experience was just as diverse folks with backgrounds connected to PlayStation, Shiver, Warner Brothers, and more. One of the best things about AVG is that we get a mix of top industry professionals, students, and everything in-between with people who care about this industry and making sure it continues to grow here in Miami.
The Vibe
The vibe was simple: meet someone new, talk shop, and leave with at least one useful connection or idea. Within minutes, the group turned into a shared brain trust—people swapping real advice, comparing notes on studios and workflows, and making space for newcomers to jump into the conversation without pressure.
Career Check-In: Job Hunts and Interviews Across Disciplines
Everyone gave updates on their current job hunts, and the overall theme was momentum. It looks like more job listings are opening up in the market, and we’re seeing interviews happening across different disciplines—from animation and rigging to engineering, VFX, and design.
What made the updates valuable wasn’t just “who’s interviewing,” but the practical takeaways:
what kinds of roles are popping up
how people are positioning their portfolios and reels
what’s working right now for outreach and follow-ups
the reminders that career paths aren’t linear (and that’s normal)
What’s Next: Pixel Art Workshop with Isai

There was a lot of excitement for the pixel art workshop we’re having next month with Isai. Pixel art is one of those deceptively deep skills—great for sharpening readability, style consistency, and animation timing, whether you’re building sprites for a game or just leveling up your visual decision-making.
If you’ve been thinking about coming to an AVG meetup, this is your sign. You don’t need a perfect portfolio or a fancy job title to belong here. If you’re learning, building, pivoting, freelancing, studying, or just looking for your people in Miami’s animation, VFX, and game-dev scene—pull up a chair.
